Google Sites vs bizhq for a local business
Google Sites is Google's own site builder. Google describes it as a tool for team, project and event sites, and its help pages do not list a price for it.
At a glance
| bizhq | Google Sites | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Yes. No credit card, no trial. | Available with a Google account. Google's pages we read list no price for Sites itself. |
| Address on the free plan | yourname.bizhq.page | You choose an address when you publish. |
| Branding on free sites | A small "Free website by bizhq" link in the footer. | Not stated on the Google pages we read. |
| Own domain | Not on the free plan. Your own .com is an optional upgrade. | You can connect a domain you already own, or buy one through a Google Workspace plan. Prices are not on those pages. |
| Who builds it | We start it from four questions, then you edit it from your phone. Free help from a person if you get stuck. | You, from premade templates in a drag-and-drop editor. |
What Google Sites does well
- You can connect up to five custom domains to one site.
- Google says the automatic grid layout scales to any device, and that it works with Docs, Sheets and the rest of Google Workspace.
- Sharing settings let you restrict who can see a site, which suits private or team pages.
Where Google Sites is harder for a local business
- Google describes Sites as being for team, project and event sites, not for local businesses.
- You start from general templates and decide the pages yourself.
- Google's steps for publishing a site are written for a computer.
- Buying a new domain through Google goes through a Google Workspace plan.
Where bizhq is the weaker choice
- Your address is yourname.bizhq.page. You can't use your own .com on the free plan.
- A site has 3 to 5 fixed pages. There is no blog.
- No online store or payments, and no booking calendar on the site itself. The Book button opens the booking app you already use.
- Visitor stats are simple counts of visits and button taps, not a full analytics tool.
- One site per account.
Which should you pick?
Pick Google Sites if you already use Google Workspace, want a simple information site or a private team site, and own a domain or are happy to set one up.
Pick bizhq if you are a local business that wants a site started for you, with call, text and review buttons and a contact form ready, edited from your phone.
