What The Free Website Guys does well
- A person builds the first version for you: they set up WordPress, key plugins, backups and Google Analytics, and customize a theme to your description (up to 10 hours of developer time).
- Their terms say the website files, graphics, layouts and content created for you become your property when the work is complete.
- It is a standard WordPress site on your own hosting, so it can be extended later with plugins, though the free build is a simple site.
- You get a detailed instruction video on making edits yourself.
Where The Free Website Guys is harder for a local business
- You have to apply and be accepted. They say they review most applications within a few days and accept approximately 30%.
- The build is free but hosting is not. Their how-it-works page asks you to sign up for at least one year with Bluehost or IONOS through their link, which is how they cover their costs.
- Their terms let them end the service if you cancel, switch or refund the hosting in a way that costs them their affiliate commission.
- They say most builds finish within no more than three weeks, not the same day.
- Ongoing maintenance, content creation, marketing and custom development are not part of the free service unless agreed in writing, so keeping the site updated after handover is up to you.
Where bizhq is the weaker choice
- Your address is yourname.bizhq.page. You can't use your own .com on the free plan.
- A site has 3 to 5 fixed pages. There is no blog.
- No online store or payments, and no booking calendar on the site itself. The Book button opens the booking app you already use.
- Visitor stats are simple counts of visits and button taps, not a full analytics tool.
- One site per account.
Which should you pick?
Pick The Free Website Guys if you want your own .com and a WordPress site you fully control, may add a blog, forms or a store later, can wait up to three weeks, and are happy to sign up for a year of hosting.
Pick bizhq if you want to be live in minutes without applying, choosing hosting or learning WordPress, to change your words, photos and hours yourself from your phone, and to get free help from a person when you're stuck.
